About Maya!

Maya is a 29 year old creative director, photographer, event curator, and entrepreneur based in the Twin Cities. She is currently pursuing her studies in photography and videography at Minneapolis College, where she continues to refine her craft and expand her creative vision.

In 2016, Maya founded Culture Piece Magazine, an online publication that established her as a storyteller and tastemaker with a sharp eye for culture, style, and community. Her influence grew further when she was invited to serve as Guest Editor for Marie Claire Magazine in October 2017, marking a pivotal milestone in her creative career. She was also named the “Scene Setter of the Twin Cities” by City Pages, recognizing her impact on the local creative and cultural landscape.

Today, Maya is recognized for her bold studio portraiture and elevated visual experiences. Her work and influence have been featured by Star Tribune, The CW Twin Cities, and other regional media outlets. In addition to photography, she offers professional videography and social media management services, specializing in short form content and behind the scenes storytelling that brings brands, creatives, and personal moments to life with elegance and intention.

Beyond the lens, Maya is the founder and curator of Black Women Unplugged, a community centered event series and creative platform designed to create intentional, soulful spaces for connection, creativity, and conversation. Through curated experiences such as film nights, wellness gatherings, and cultural events, Maya merges storytelling, ambiance, and community building, extending her visual artistry into real life experiences.
